Heather Romanowski
I guide and inspire writers to create magical worlds for their audience to get lost in.
I work with publishers like Wizards of the Coast, Elder Glade Publishing, Plus One Exp/Alchemical Ink, and Manuscripts as well as independent authors and businesses. I edited the 2022 Hugo Award nominee, Seanan McGuire’s “Tangles” in the short story category and 2025 International Impact Book Award winner “Humble Dreams: Pragmatic Leadership Lessons from African Women” by Meriem Boudjadja in the Female Empowerment category.
When I am not reading or editing, I am an avid gamer and gardener. I also dabble in journaling, yoga, rock climbing, mini-painting, and baking. When I can, I indulge my wanderlust and visit as many historical sites, museums, gardens, and local haunts as possible with my husband, tiny gremlin child, and dog.
I live in the Great Lakes State of Michigan. I volunteer as the President for the Editors Tea Club and I am a member of the ACES: The Society of Editing. I am the former Co-Coordinator for the Michigan chapter of the Editorial Freelancers Association.
- Coaching: Start where your project is at and through collaborative meetings and manuscript/documentation review help the creator bring their vision into reality.
- Developmental Editing: Reading and reviewing the big picture items: character arcs, narrative arcs, major plot and minor plots, settings, and the story signposts to assist in filling in plot holes. A book map will be provided so you can visually see where each major point occurs to help balance the story’s pacing.
- Line Editing: Listening to the book from start to finish to ensure your character’s voices shine bright, the story flows, and each sentence carries the weight of the story forward.
- Copyediting: Reading to ensure consistency, fact-checking, grammar, syntax, and everything is polished as it can be before layout and proofreading.
- Worldbuilding Assistance: Collaborative meetings to help flesh out worlds, lore, and transmedia. Documentation review is included.
- Magic: The Gathering web fiction and world guides (2020+)
